They are the Scandinavian Champions

The Scandinavian Championship has crowned their kings and queens 2024. The last round where held at Grenland Speedway and Flat track in Skien Norway. The weather was grand but the club organizing the finales showed some lack of experience and mishaps made riders sometimes wait without any info and sometimes hurry to be able to reach the track in time. By the end of the day, the worst mistakes were gone and the flow was much better, but the day still became much longer than expected though every delay went into hours of wasted time. The biggest issue were the lack of preparation of the track, that become a continuing problem during the day, it never got time to soke in the water and it was either too slippery because it was to dry or too slippery because it was too wet. The conditions were same for everyone though and the judge made a great job keeping the level of racing on top in spite of the messed up schedule. Bad track conditions are always worst for the not so experienced or not so good riders. They had to struggle hard to finish, but even the very best ones had a tough day at the track.

The result after the finales didn’t surprise anyone, the class leaders kept on strong all the way but there were some hard working riders missing in the finales due to crashes in other races this season. The leader of Vintage Modern Classic the Swede Anders “Nesse” Nilsson were in Skien, but with a broken back. He was able to recieve the Silver plate both in VMC and in Thunderbike where he had to split it with his Vetlanda team mate Mia Kristoffersson, the winner of Thunderbike became again the undefeated pointsleader of the cup Conny Ivarsson also Vetlanda Sweden. The Vintage classes were more open until the end. Vintage modern Classic was won by Claes Andersson who had his chance with the other guys not coming to the start. The two riders on top of Vintage Real Deal was almost certain to end up as #1 and #2 as long as both of them could finish. Örjan Engelbrekt was as usual faster on the straights even though Camilla Eriksson fought hard in the corners, but still it wasn’t enough in the end. Vintage True Gold was almost all about Norway in the finale and Peer Bakke ended up undefeated the whole day, followed by his friend and fellow country man Gunnar Solvang (Mr Vinsvoll). The pointsleader of the class, Magnus Kempe, still had enough to claim the gold plate on his beauty Magnum.

Jacob Mattsson Sweden was almost certain to claim the golden plate in Hooligan, but he joker the Swedish Dane Søren Teil Hansen messed up the race a little bit and in the last qualifacation round Mattsson got a little bit to eager and lost his rear tyre and crashed. Still he managed to finish the finale as second a little bit brused but happy, cause that secured the gold before the Norweigan Karl-Espen Mølmen from Team Bånngass Kristiansand. Supergirl has lost last years winner to the Amateur class, but last years second and third claimed the gold and silver this year. Swedish Camilla Ericsson pointsleader of the class before Mia Kristoffersson Sweden and the two Norweigans Christina Olufsen and Shirley Fagerland. Malene Solvang last years winner of Supergirl has made a huge impression on many of us this season, winning the Supergirl in the German Championship and fighting the sometimes very fast Amateurs. After a crash in Vetlanda she ended up with just a few points but it was still enough to claim the bronze plate along with Norweigan Geir Nygjordet. Winner of the class was Finn Aku Lantto who have had a great first season as a flat tracker while taking a brake from drag racing. The silver went to the very talented Norweigan Ole Friis Kløfjell who we would like to see in the Pro class next year. He has been riding very little this year but the young Ole has way too much talent not to use it amoung the best ones.

The Pro Class was all about Finland in spite of Norweigan Øyvind Dahls sometimes really fast and good racing. From the very beginning the top three after the finales had the speed and strenght to claim their titles of the season. The young, only 16 years old, Finn Saku Purtilo fought hard and ended up on a very well deserved fourth place. This young Finnish talent also was the undefeated winner of this years junior class. Saku has had a fantastic season in both Germany, Netherlands as well as the very hard Czech series where he rides amoung several WC-riders. In the end the two-time World Champion, Lasse Kurvinen, claimed this years title in spite of young ice road racing champion Ossi Rantala claimed the gold plate of the last round, Lasse was way ahead in standings and could not be beaten by the younger rider. Mikko Koskinen who ended third has kept a solid level the whole season and kept his third place both in the last round in the Championship.

This year had only three Rookies one at the Vetlanda Round and two in Norway. Winners became Imre Bode Norweigan and Robin Björge Sweden.

In both Vetlanda Sweden and Norway we had the pleasure to watch some really young riders at the track. This last round offered Imre Bode Junior the opprtunity to show his skills. For all who participated or watched last years race in Vinsvoll, maybe remember that young kid, who crashed maybe 10 times in two laps, just jumped on the bike and kept going. Thats him, but this years his rider skills had improved a lot and gave every one a good show on his PW 50.

Scandinavian Flat Track cup is done 2024, we got ten new Champions and when Lasse Kurvinen got on the podium to get his Champion title he was impressed by the quality of riders and consider the Scandinavian serie as the third thoughest serie in Europe.
